Louise Bassin

Louise Bassin

A new hotel for Louise Basin in the Old Port of Québec

Louise Basin will undergo a major transformation within a few years. According to the first estimate, up to $300 million will be injected into a host of facilities including an urban park, a riverside beach town, a children’s museum, a hotel complex, an office building, housing, a new parking garage with up to 1,500 spaces, a new public market and rehabilitation of the surrounding wetlands.

Large bungee jumping silos that doubled as the backdrop for the Robert Lapage light and sound show would be upgraded as well.

Several real estate projects are on track to be developed near the present Société d’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) at the head of the basin.

This large revitalization project was inspired by similar projects in the port districts of seven cities around the world including Hamburg in Germany, the area north of Genoa in Italy and Antwerp in Belgium and will be kicked off soon upon approval from the federal government of Canada. The federal government owns the land and the Quebec Port Authority administers it for the undertaking of conventional port activities. The basin has the only land at the entrance to Old Québec that is available for large-scale development.

This project will serve to complement the new image of the Old Port of Quebec which calls for strong improvements in its infrastructure and expansion backed by an investment of $60.2 million as announced by the Federal Government.

Implementation of these projects will also include repairs to Beauport Bay
