Quebec City in winter: let’s discover what we’re made of!

Quebec City in winter is the perfect destination for the world winter games. Taking place concurrently with the Quebec Winter Carnival festivities, the WWMG Quebec 2015 is the second of a multi-sport competition event that is held every four years at a locale around the world. The first winter competition of the International Masters Games Association was first held in Bled, Slovenia in 2010.

The second Winter World Masters Games will take place from January 31 to February 8, 2015. During the nine-day event, hundreds of master sports enthusiasts, professional athletes and former Olympians will take part in 40 sporting competitions. Competitive events cover the gamut of winter sports including alpine skiing, ice hockey, triathlon, cross country skiing and much more.

The Winter World Masters Games WWMG 2015

Recognized by the International Olympic Committee, the goal of the Winter World Masters Games is to encourage all adults over the age of 25 to engage in winter sports as a lifelong way to improve personal fitness. More than 3,000 athletes will be waiting for the chance to compete against their counterparts from around the world.

This year’s winter edition of this top-notch event was decided last summer by the IMGA (International Masters Games Association). Realizing what a huge success the summer event has been for the past 20 years, the IMGA decided to launch a winter edition, with hope of achieving the same huge success.

The Winter World Masters Games is taking place in Quebec Canada.

The city of Quebec expects $6 million to $10 million in economic spinoffs from the Winter World Masters Games. Originally, this event was supposed to have been held in 2013 in Sestriere, Italy, located in the Occitan Valleys of the province of Turin. Due to concerns about the economic situation in the country at the time, the organizers decided it might be better to seek a partnership with another country. It was after that that they decided on Quebec Canada as the locale for the second Winter World Masters Games.
