Every year, Quebec City celebrates music in this extraordinary international music festival. In fact, this is perhaps Canada’s most important music festival. Bands from around the world come to entertain on three main stages along with smaller intimate venues throughout the Old City. From contemporary pop and rock, to country, folk and even techno, every genre is presented. Historically, greats such as the Rolling Stones, Green Day, Lady Gaga have performed during this must see festival. The pricing is very reasonable. Typically a 10 day pass costs around 160$ and gives unlimited access to all of the venues for the pass holder. Between concerts and venues, street performers similar to those seen in this photo will enchant and entertain you as well. Why not plan an afternoon or evening on the Saint Lawerence River, feeling the cool breeze in the summer air on board le Louis-Jolliet. The guided tour of the river, as you see the view from the water of the Old City, the Isle d’Orleans and Montmorency Falls. You will see a nice overview of the region, which will certainly tempt you to venture on your own to those fabulous sites and discover them further. This tour is a perfect combination of nature and culture. During this tour you will discover the history of Québec city and its surroundings. The cruise starts at Cap Diamant and will end near the beautiful Montmorency Falls.
If you are a photography buff, we certainly recommend a late night ferry ride across the river to the town of Levis. The views of Old Quebec by night are nothing short of breathtaking. Definitely worth a toast while crossing the river!

Take a 10 minute walk from the hotel, and you will find yourself surrounded by the charm and beauty of the Petit Champlain neighborhood in Old Quebec. This is the oldest part of Old Quebec. Be sure to visit the Eglise de Notre Dame des Victoires, the original church situated in Place Royale.
Don’t miss the artists on Rue du Tresor! As you meander throught the streets of Old Quebec, you will eventually stumble onto Rue du Tresor. Also known as “Art Alley”, this famous little street is lined with paintings as local artists showcase their work. This charming little Esplanade Park is located in the heart of Old Quebec. It is nestled just between the gates Saint-Louis and Saint-Jean in a heritage site located in front of the Hotel Manoir d’Auteuil. The park is a place where you can traipse, stroll, take a walk, sit and relax to admire the view even in winter when the park is covered with its white coat. Magnificent photos can be taken in this enchanting setting.
In this historic and unusual place in Québec City, you can see an old gunpowder house dating from the ninth century. And up d’Auteuil Street, which is very close, are the Porte Saint-Louis and the horse-drawn carriage rides through Old Quebec. And going down d’Auteuil Street, you will arrive at the Saint-Jean gates and you will come across the renowned Saint-Jean Street, with its famous restaurants, pubs, and boutiques.
In Esplanade Park, you will have the opportunity to view several monuments as well as a work of art. Among the most eye-catching monuments, you have the monument of the heroes of the Boer War, as well as the alley of the poets with its monument dedicated to the great poet of the 20th century, Mr. Emile Nelligan. This monument is also adjacent to the monument of playwright and poet, Alexander Pushkin, as well as some other famous poets of different nationalities. This is to highlight the contribution of immigrants who have participated in the construction of the great city of Quebec since the last centuries.
The Esplanade Park is a public space and a must to discover.
Enter through one of the three historic gates protecting the walked city of Old Quebec. L’Hôtel Manoir d’Auteuil is situated just inside the Gate entrance on the famous rue d’Auteuil street, at the bottom of St. Louis street. While beautiful by day, the gates are a sight to behold by night.
In honour of the 400th anniversary of Quebec City, this gorgeous fountain was installed at the center of the roundabout on Avenue Honoré-Mercier. The fountain comes from Bordeaux in France, as commissioned by the mayor to celebrate their pairing.
The sculptures are the work of the famous artist Mathurin Moreau and features jets of water from the mouths of frogs, children holding hands, the gods Neptune and Acis, and goddesses Amphitrite and Galatea.
Perfectly located just within the ramparts of the Old City, Le Manoir d’Auteuil faces Parliament Hill and the Esplanade Park. Take a short walk from Le Manoir d’Auteuil and you will find yourself right in front of the Parliament.
There are bronze sculptures scattered throughout the gardens, as well as many monuments to Canadian Surveyors and the Acadians and Parliament Fountain.
Situated just up the street from Le Manoir d’Auteuil, the Citadel of Quebec is a must see for all tourists. The museum showcases Quebec City’s military history, including that of the Queen’s Royal Regiment. Tour this active military base and view Quebec from its highest point.
During the summer months, the changing of the guard takes place at 10 a.m. on the Citadelle’s parade grounds every morning. The ceremony marks the arrival of new sentries to relieve those on duty at the garrison. The Citadelle is a short walk from Le Manoir d’Auteuil.
Either drive, bike or take a tour to the beautiful Montmorency Falls. Known to be higher than those of Niagara, the Montmorency Park is beautiful and well worth a visit.
By car, it is about a 10 minute drive from the hotel. By bike, a relaxing ride along the Saint Lawrence River will take about 45 minutes.

Take a stroll along the ramparts surrounding the walled city to enjoy the magnificent Old Quebec views. This historic site has preserved the only remaining fortified city walls in North America. The wall surrounds most of Old Quebec and were refortified by the British after they took the city from the French in the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
The Ramparts of Quebec City were declared a World Heritage site in 1985 and a National Historic Site of Canada in 1948.
The Plains of Abraham offer a simple yet rewarding outdoor activity in a wonderful and historic 108-hectare setting. A picnic will leave you feeling mesmerized by the bucolic charm of a space just moments from the heart of Quebec City. The huge park that was once a battlefield along the bank of the Saint Lawrence River with beautiful views of the city of Lévis on the river’s South Shore and the Island of Orléans in plain view just a few kilometers downstream.
For a picnic getaway, the Plains of Abraham are an idyllic setting. Harmony, tranquility, the singing of birds, squirrels and flowers. There is so much to see after your picnic. And, if you would like to enjoy the sounds of nature, the shade of the majestic trees or a few minutes of sunbathing, you may fancy a walk with your lover on the trails or through the grassy valleys. The experience is sure to leave you will feeling fully revitalized.
One of Quebec’s treasures and located just a short walk from the Hotel Manoir d’Auteuil, the Basilica de Notre Dame is a must see. With the ornate gilded gold interior, the Basilica is a favourite spot for pilgrims, worshipers and visitors alike. Midnight mass over Christmas is especially beautiful, typically accompanied by angelic voices of the children’s choir.
In 2013, the Vatican presented a gift to the oldest church in North America, the Cathedral-Basilica Notre-Dame de Québec. The purpose of the gift was to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the famous old church. This exceptional gift is the Holy Door and it’s the only one of its kind in North America.
The gift from the Holy See is a massive bronze door embossed with biblical figures. It is the seventh Holy Door in the world.
