THE PARLIAMENT HILL

Welcome to the Capitale Nationale!  Quebec City serves as the capital of the Province of Quebec.  Home to the Parliament of Quebec, the Lieutenant-Governor and the National Assembly convene here. The building was designed by architect Eugène-Étienne Taché and was built from 1877 to 1886.  In 2019, the government completed a visitor’s center allowing all to access and tour this majestic facility.  Tours are free of charge, but do require a reservation.  Please be sure to bring one government issued piece of identity to present at arrival.

The hillside is beautifully landscaped with gardens and flowers, a true horticultural treat.  In the evening, the 26 beautiful statues on the grounds as well as the facade of the building are illuminated making for a fantastic photo op.  One of the unique attributes of this government building is that citizens have such wonderful access to the grounds and the building as well.

Situated just on the other side of the wall from the Manoir d’Auteuil, we highly recommend setting aside a couple of hours to visit and tour this facility.  If you plan well around lunch time, we highly recommend the Restaurant Parliamentaire.  Located in the Parliament Building’s inner courtyard, the National Assembly of Québec’s Le Parlementaire restaurant is a venue steeped in history and offers an unprecedented culinary experience featuring local products and produce, often from its own herb, fruit and vegetable gardens situated on the grounds.  They even offer honey from their beehives. Le Parlementaire is recognized by the “Aliments du Québec au menu” program for its commitment to using homegrown fare. This really is a must do when staying with us at the Manoir d’Auteuil.
