09 Mar National Parks Near Quebec City
After several weeks of confinement following the dramatic consequences of the Covid-19, things are gradually re-opening and we are free to move around. With the arrival of sunny days, we all ask ourselves the same questions: what to do to enjoy the summer ? How to support the local economy while having the impression of traveling? Where to go for fresh air while staying safe?
Fortunately, I already have some great ideas to share with you!
Do you know the Société des establishments de plein air du Québec (SEPAQ)? No ? This organization administers, operates and enhances the grandiose and public places entrusted to it by the government of Quebec.
And when I say “grandiose places”, I’m not exaggerating! Have you heard of the majestic Chute-Montmorency? Located 15 minutes from Old Quebec, the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency is a spectacular site with our famous waterfall that dominates the landscape (83 meters high, just that!). However, this site is also intimately linked to the history of Quebec, as it was the site of significant events at the start of New France (notably the Battle of Montmorency in 1759).
How about the Parc de la Jacques Cartier? Located 30 minutes from Quebec City, this park brings together more than 100km of walking trails, most of which give you access to spectacular views. It will be the ideal place for your outdoor picnics. You can rent a kayak or canoe, and explore the tranquil waterways. The trails offered are from moderate to difficult, so there really is something for everyone.
Of course, we will not end this blog without mentioning the sumptuous Fjord-Du-Saguenay National Park. You will create memorable memories not only thanks to the breathtaking scenery, but above all by the presence of a variety of wildlife. From the banks of Tadoussac alone, you can observe harbor seals, belugas, minke whales and other marine mammals. Not to mention the black bears, lynx, wolves, beavers and moose that inhabit the surrounding forests. And if that is not enough for you, the whole Charlevoix region opens its arms to you (with its farms producing nearly 400 different types of cheese, its art galleries, the Grands-Jardins National Park, its Bay Saint Paul, its microbreweries, and so much more).
For the dates of progressive reopening of the parks and the measures implemented against the Covid-19 on site, see https://www.sepaq.com/covid-19/
And as there are more than 25 SEPAQ parks across Quebec, do not hesitate to stop off at the Manoir d’Auteuil! You will take the opportunity to discover (or rediscover) the National Capital!
