25 Mar Quebec’s International Book Fair
The International Salon du Livre takes place at Quebec City’s Conference Center April 11 to 15, 2018.
With a cup of hot tea, warmth of the sun, a comfy chair and a good book, no afternoon goes to waste! Québec city is known to be a cultural haven promoting the beauty of the French language while embracing all literary genres. Librairies, bookstores and second hand bookstores can be found by the dozen and make thousands of happy readers in search of their next literary adventure.
I personally like to get myself updated on the trends at the International Québec Book Fair. This year’s edition will be held at the Québec City Convention Center from April 11th to April 15th.
Over the course of the four days, you will be able to meet with writers, comic book artists and have your favourite books signed( if you are patient enough!).
A panel of activities, readings and speeches will provide every visitors with a ton of information and updates to go on for yet another year.
68000 visitors came by the fair last year, beating the previous record by 1000 visitors! Over 1200 authors were present and just as many are expected for this year’s edition. The Salon du Livre ( the Quebec City book fair) does hope to set yet another record this year as well!
Simultaneously and in partnership with the book fair, Quebec BD, the Québec City comic book festival will take place in the Convention center as well. Comics book artists will showcase their latest work, work on new projects live and entertain young and old with various activities. Not only are they present at the book fair, but they also organized a “treasure hunt” on St-Jean street. The restaurants, bars and shops’s windows will be decorated with big posters inviting visitors to come in and get one of the collection postcards created especially for the event. The posts cards all feature drawings that represent the Faubourg St-Jean neighbourhood or the way they perceive it. You can then vote for your favourite card and maybe win a participation prize for doing so. This new exciting event will replace the popular “window decoration” on St-Jean Street.
And since books are today’s theme, our staff decided to share their favorite with you!
Nancy : Le mur mitoyen, Catherine Leroux, the author writes beautifully and wraps you softly in her world. Also for the author’s talent that creates poetic intricate intrigues.
Gabrielle : For the action happening in the Old Québec district: Bury your dead, Louise Penny
Becky-Lee : Because I love an old classic and tales of yesteryears , Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Marika: 1984, George Orwell (novel, critic on totalitarianism) – What was described as a utopian futuristic ‘fiction’ in this book written in 1949, can now be directly compared to the modern society.
