Cap-Tourmente National Wildlife Reserve: the greater snow goose paradise

Located 50km from downtown Quebec, this park is a place of great beauty. Made up of marshes, plains and forest, the hiking there is magnificent.

The Cap-Tourmente National Wildlife Reserve’s mission is to protect the American bulrush marsh, which is the main habitat of the greater snow goose during its migration. A true paradise for bird and mammal observation, Cap Tourmente is home to 180 species of birds, 30 species of mammals and more than 700 species of plants.

In addition to the magnificent fall colors, you will be able to observe migratory birds that land at Cap Tourmente during their long journey, including the greater snow goose. In the fall, snow geese leave northern Canada where they nest to travel to the American Atlantic coast.

The geese make this migration accompanied by their chicks, which are around 6 to 8 weeks old. During each migration, they stop for the entire month of October at Cap Tourmente. Their migration is approximately 4000km long, impressive isn’t it? We suggest you visit Cap Tourmente during the geese visit.
