What to do in Quebec in July 2018

The month of July in Quebec is beautiful, hot, fun and full of activity. We take the opportunity to ger tan in the sun on the Plains and have a picnic while waiting for shows at the Edwin Bélanger Kiosk, or to visit the brand new exhibition at the National Museum of Fine Arts in rainy weather. Maybe you prefer a little opera to close your eyes and savor the music?

The Plains of Abraham are well known to athletes who converge there morning and evening for their daily run. There are large green spaces and gardens that are also popular with horticulture enthusiasts (especially the Jeanne d’Arc Garden where there are more than 150 species of flowers / plants). Since 1993, they have also been hostesses for outdoor shows at the Edwin Bélanger Kiosk.

A prominent figure on the Quebec City music scene, Edwin Bélanger advocated music accessible to all. In order to honor his memory, concerts are therefore presented free of charge on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings in the summer season. In 2018, the evenings started on June 10 and will end on August 5. In particular, we will have the pleasure of hearing the magnificent voices of Angel Forrest and Marie-Hélène Thibert or even discovering resolutely rock or country musical universes. Visit the kiosk’s Facebook page in inclement weather for updates.

Doesn’t art make life sweeter and more tender? I remember my first contact with the Impressionist movement, from Monets’s paintings with vague colors and lines to the feeling of amusement at the sight of a work by Van Gogh. We often speak of the big Impressionist names in the masculine form. However, there is a major female figure in this movement: Berthe Morisot. The National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec offers you a magnificent exhibition of nearly 60 paintings by this artist. From June 21 to September 23, come and admire the legendary brush of this great artist. The exhibition will then travel to Philadelphia, Dallas to finally end its tour in Paris. Berthe Morisot at the MNBAQ is an exhibition not to be missed this summer in Quebec.

Classical music also finds its place in our beautiful season. From July 24 to August 6, the Festival d’Opéra de Québec will be in its 8th edition in our beautiful capital. In addition to the “Lyric Brigade” performing in various places in the city, more famous operas such as Mozart’s Magic Flute or La belle Hélène d´Offenbach will be presented at the Grand Théâtre de Québec and the Palais Montcalm. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about this theatrical branch of music. Tickets are on sale from now.

The warm nights of late July will be the perfect setting for the Africa Day Festival. Learn more about the culture of the different countries of this magnificent continent by immersing yourself in many activities from July 26 to 29. We like the atmosphere of sharing that reigns in multi-cultural events of this kind. It is always fascinating to expand your horizons!

In short, although summer is in full swing, that’s no reason to be idle and laze around! See you on the Plains or in a park! Good summer! !
